I really feel out of touch with the forum of late but I still have no computer of my own which is annoying. I can use Barry's when he's out but that is less often now he's cutting back on his workload.

Things here generally are a bit hectic as my son is not at all well. He's had OCD since a teenager but now it has really got out of control. He won't go out as he sees everyone he meets as a potential carer of some illness or other so at 36 he's just stuck here with us. It wasn't until I started reading up on the internet about it that I realised what a serious illness it is. The World Health Organisation has put it in their top 10 of debilitating illnesses as it affects people's ability to live a normal life.

The good thing is that he has realised himself that he can't go on like this and has been referred to a psychiatrist. I know we knock the NHS at times but the local mental health unit have been very good. His first appointment was an hour and the second two hours. We were very concerned what the diagnosis would be but it is Severe OCD which is obviously the extreme end of the condition. He goes tomorrow to find out what treatment is recommended.

I'm not keeping too badly RA wise but my main trouble is the bursitis/tendonitis in my hips. When I had the MRI it showed it in my left hip with the start of it in my right hip. The right hip has obviously caught up and I think overtaken the left one now. This makes sleeping difficult as I can only lay on my back or front. This is hurting my knees and flattening my already flat chest but sadly it doesn't seem to have the same effect on my stomach!

Anyway folks I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten you and I do think of you all often especially the youngsters. Jenni you are amazing with what you have to cope with and I send you all my best wishes. Also how is Emily - I also think of you often.

Love - Brenda

Hi Brenda,

That`s very sad about your son`s condition, but he has been very brave in seeking help, and I hope a way through this can be found to help him to lead a normal life. I have a son the same age.

Sorry to hear about your hips - they sound really painful, and I don`t envy you trying to sleep on your back : I just can`t sleep on my back at all, for some reason.

Take care, & post when you can,

Kathleen x

Oh Brenda, I am so sad to hear of your son's illness and I pray he will be helped very quickly and thoroughly. It must be extremely debilitating for all of you.

I truly sympathise with hip pain, what an absolute nightmare it is! And to have it in both hips...I only have it in the right but you tend to compensate where you put all the weight onto the other side etc.

I hope it calms down for you; did you have a steroid put in?

Much love,

Amanda

Thank you everyone and I just hope tomorrow is the start of better times. Medication was talked about as well as therapy so we'll see.

Amanda, I was offered a depo jab but I refused as they make me feel most peculiar for a few days plus I get red cheeks like Aunt Sally. I have had to up my oral steroids which I also don't like to do (there is no pleasing me is there) which has obviously helped. As I am only taking 200mg hydroxy one day and then 400mg the next I am increasing this slightly and will see if I can get to 400mg daily without the same side effects as before. I don't know if this will help or not.

Will let you know how my son gets on. Even going to the mental health unit is a major thing for him and I have to go with him. Love Brenda

HELLO lovely Brenda,
i wondered how you were getting on (my hydroxychloroquine and steroid buddy!!!) Shame the bursistis is still playing up!
So sorry to hear about your dear son, ocd is an awful thing to have and can make one feel like they are going crazy. Before we leave the house my hubby just goes and sits in the car 15 minutes before we actually leave as it takes me that long to check/double check (sometimes up to 10 times worth of checking the sames things) before i can leave the house, it really annoys me and makes me even more anxious to have to go out! Am pleased he is receiving help though, anti-depressants can help with it i think. Your son is lucky to have such a caring mum to support himSmile .

Im ok(ish), plodding along as ya do but RA wise not too bad, just had a high dose of steroids so face is rather round and i can't stop eating!!!! Have had lots going on really, my mum had been quite poorly and has been diagnose with avascular necrosis (it's where the blood stopped flowing to he bones thus making them die for no apparent reason!) So far both her knees have been affected and will need to be replaced, it's a bit of a waiting game to see if the hips and shoulders are to go next, not a good start to the year but things can only improve can't they!

Anyway, much love to you and keep us posted how ya son get's on.
love emilyXXX.
